Tanner Boyle’s lead-off single of 2025, “Told You,” was released today, a new sound in the new year as he builds toward the release of his full LP. With two singles already out, “What You Missed,” and “Headphones,” “Told You” comfortably lifts Boyle from the “newcomer with a soaring sophomoric release” (Headphones has eclipsed 200,000 listens) to an artist with the power to continue surprising and producing quality tunes for years to come.
A classic boy meets girl love triangle, “Told You” is a soulful R&B tune with a groove that would make the Dap Kings bob their heads and tap their toes. As with Boyle’s last two releases, his powerful vocals are front and center while the band around him builds the perfect foundation for his impressive lyrical lung work. The combination of Boyle’s apparent pop instincts and producer Stefan Scheuermann’s capacity to bring the vision to life in the studio, has yielded an energetic soul pop song in a clear evolution of Boyle’s quickly growing catalogue. Ybor City Records’ go-to engineer, the great Andrew Boullianne, engineered and mastered the release.
The studio band is made up of the boys from Mercy McCoy, fellow Ybor City Records (YCR) artists and decorated studio band. Regular YCR studio contributor, Alex Merrill (Danny & Alex) on keys. Merrill is not only a critical flavor in the track, but also gives us the proverbial cherry on top with an organ solo so original and expressive, that you continue discovering new notes you didn’t hear upon the many (and we mean many) prior listens. Listeners will get sucked in within the first few seconds of the track, with Boyle’s vocals and harmonies giving us something new in each verse and chorus, building to a track that is combusting into a dance party by the middle of the song.
With earlier releases sitting sonically next to artists like James Morrison, Allen Stone, and early Amos Lee, this latest (soon to be) radio-hit propels Boyle’s catalog into new territory with a groovy bass line and piano led instrumentals, catching vibes of Maroon 5 and The Dip. “Told You” is the first in a line of releases planned for 2025 that showcase a writing prowess on the rapid rise.
Released on Ybor City Records®, “Told You” was recorded in Nashville, TN at Canyon East Studios and distributed through our official partner, Symphonic Distribution.
